Feyenoord will get their Eredivisie title defence started this weekend when they take on Fortuna Sittard on Sunday afternoon. The hosts returned to the summit of the Eredivisie table last season following a five-season wait. They managed 82 points and finished seven points ahead of PSV in second and 13 points ahead of outgoing champions Ajax. Over the course of the season, Feyenoord recorded 25 wins, seven draws and suffered just two defeats. They had already wrapped up the league title by that point, though. Their major downfall last season was their form on the road, as they lost each of their last five away games and won only five of 17 across the season. Fortuna Sittard played five preseason matches and managed two wins, two losses, and a draw, scoring six and conceding six in that time. While they are not expected to trouble to top sides in the league this season, the visitors will be aiming to deliver a solid performance in this one, which will help them build some momentum for their favourable fixture against newly promoted side Almere City next week.
