Most of Fenerbahce’s season has been spent in the drop zone, which was least expected from the team that finished second last season, just three points behind eventual champions Galatasaray. Fenerbahce had 78 goals scored then, making them the most prolific side in the season and had them register the joint second highest goal difference. This season has been a far cry and the side has only picked four wins going into their 20th match of the Super Lig. While they have averaged a goal a game, they have been let down by a poor defence, conceding 27 goals in the 19 matches played. They however managed a 3 – 2 win over third placed Yemi Malatyaspor and will hope to carry the momentum to this game. A run of one win in seven league matches will however dent their status going to the game. They have also managed just two clean sheets in the last 10 league matches. On a more positive outlook though, Fenerbahce have gone unbeaten in their last four home league matches and they have scored in each of the last five league matches at home. In the last four, they have netted at least two goals. With two wins, a draw and two losses in their last five outings, Goztepe will be worthy opponents to Fenerbahce but with six losses in the last eight league matches will set them on the hind foot heading to this game. The fact that they have lost eight of their 10 away league matches this season further complicates their prospects here. They have beaten Fenerbahce just once in the last eight meetings and there is a feeling this will not be their day.
