The UEFA Champions League continues this week with Danish side Midtjylland playing host to Dutch giants Ajax in Group D. Heading to this game, both these sides are yet to register a win in the group, and Midtjylland are bottom after losing both their games, while Ajax have a point from their opening two games. In their last match in the group, Midtjylland threw everything at Liverpool and after holding them in the first half, they crumbled in the second, to lose 2-0. That defeat was followed by another loss in their domestic league, falling 4-1 to Nordsjaelland, and they will be really low in terms of morale. Midtjylland was the best side in defence in the Danish league last season but so far in this campaign, they have struggled defensively. They head to this clash without a clean sheet in their last seven matches and in five of them, they have conceded two goals or more. Six of their last seven matches have produced over 2.5 goals, most of these factored by their porous defence, and facing this Ajax side, the Danes will need to fasten at the back. Three losses in their last four matches will not be the best run heading to this game and Midtjylland have also not scored a goal in the group so far, having earlier lost 4-0 to Atalanta.

Ajax have scored 20 goals in their last three matches and will really be fired up going to this match, coming from a 5-2 win over Fortuna Sittard in the Eredivisie. They will want a win badly here after near misses in their opening two matches. In their opening Group D game, they matched Liverpool for most of the game but were undone by an own goal. In their second match, they were on course to a key away win but after leading Atalanta 2-0, they dropped their guard in the second half and drew 2-2. Ajax have conceded four goals in their last two matches and Midtjylland will look at this as one thing they can exploit, but the Dutch side well makes for this in attack. Ajax’s only clean sheet in the last seven matches has come against VVV, a game they completely marooned their Eredivisie compatriots, in a 13-0 win. One thing about Ajax though, they are one of the best sides when playing away from home in the Champions League. They go to this game unbeaten in 16 straight away matches in this competition. They have scored two or more goals in eight of the last 10 away matches in the Champions League, but they have conceded in 10 of the last 16 away matches in the competition.
