The final round of fixtures in the UEFA Champions League group stage are upon us with second-place FC København taking on third-place Galatasaray. These two clubs are involved in a direct shootout to decide which team will accompany Bayern Munich in the round of 16. Both teams are even on five points but it is the Danish side that holds a slight goal differential advantage (-1 to Gala’s -2). With Manchester United sitting fourth on four points, there are a number of ways this final day could play out. A draw for København and Galatasaray combined with a Manchester United victory would see both of these teams eliminated as the English side would finish second. In that scenario, København would secure third-place and a spot in the Europa League knockout round. A win for either of these sides would automatically see them finish second. København can also advance with a draw in this match combined with a Manchester United loss to Bayern.

København performed excellently in their 0-0 draw away to Bayern Munich in matchday five, a point which ultimately could make the difference in this tight battle for second-place. The defending Danish champions have not been in a good spell of form overall but were able to snap out of it on the weekend. A 2-1 away victory over Silkeborg put an end to the team’s longest winless run of the season at five games, three of which ended in defeat.

As for Galatasaray, they managed to gain a potentially crucial point in their last Champions League appearance as well. Cimbom would come back from a 3-1 deficit in the second half to earn a 3-3 draw at full time. Since that result, Galatasaray have won their last two consecutive matches, the most recent of which finished 3-1 over Adana DS last Friday. The Turkish giants are now on a four match unbeaten run across all competitions, scoring an impressive 12 goals during that stretch.
