Cup action in Germany this week sees Bayern Munich hosting Hoffenheim in the third round of the DFB-Pokal. Reigning Bundesliga champions Bayern come into this game in terrific form, flying high under the stewardship of Hans-Dieter Flick. The coach has a win rate of over 84% from his 13 games in charge. Bayern have bounced back from the flawed Nico Kovac era to regain top spot in the league, one point ahead of closest rivals RB Leipzig. It's been an interesting and open title race in the German top flight this season. Even Hoffenheim, all the way back in seventh place, cannot be ruled out of the championship, being just nine points away from the summit. Adjusting to life after prodigious coach Julian Nagelsmann (who left for Leipzig), Hoffenheim look good under Alfred Schreuder. They are one of the form teams in the division, winning four of their last six matches, a run that includes victories over Dortmund and Leverkusen.
The relatively-unknown Schreuder has made a habit of collecting scalps this season. The last time his team visited the Allianz Arena, they left victorious. While Kovac was in still in charge at that time of that October 2019 match, Hoffenheim are likely to give Bayern a game this time around too. They have a big-match mentality and usually rise to the occasion. However, their cup record is fairly poor. They haven't reached the quarter-finals of this competition since 2015. Bayern, meanwhile, have made it to at least the last four in every edition of this competition since 2010. We don't see that record changing. Back Bayern to win both halves.
