Famalicao are sixth in the Portuguese Primeira League and still in with a chance of qualifying for European football next season. Current form is not good though and they are likely to struggle against fourth placed Sporting Lisbon. The home side won promotion last season and got off to an impressive start with six wins and a draw from their first seven fixtures. Form has dipped of late though and they come into this match having earned just three points from their last six league games. They are still having nightmares over a recent 7-0 home loss to Vitoria Guimaraes (despite a spell of 35 minutes without conceding). Famalicao are only six points behind their opponents who occupy the final Europa League qualifying position. Only one of their last seven home league fixtures have been won but a form guide for the last ten matches has them one from bottom in the table.

Sporting Lisbon almost made it through to the last sixteen of the Europa League on Thursday. After winning the home leg against Istanbul Basaksehir 3-1, they were 2-1 down in Turkey going into the 90th minute. The Turkish side scored again to take the tie into extra-time and a goal one minute from time saw them through. Sporting have only lost one of their last five league games. Their last two league losses have bee to the sides currently first and third in the table. They will be out for revenge in this game, having lost the reverse fixture 2-1. The form of both these sides has changed a lot since that September clash. Sporting have won five away league matches this season, this looks like being wiin number six.
