Porto are top of the Primeira League with a point lead over Benfica. They can extend that lead to four points if winning away at Famalicao who are seventh in the table. The league leaders will be chasing a sixth straight away league win and have only lost one of their 12 on the road this season. That was at Gil Vicente in their first away game of the new season. Since then, they hae played 11, winning nine and drawing two with just eight goals conceded. They aren't prolific goalscorers though, averaging just over two a game and exactly two on their travels. The reverse fixture against their opponents in this game ended in a 3-0 home win, though two of the goals came in the last 18 minutes.  

The home side still have hopes of making it into the Europa League next season. They are only five points adrift of the final qualifying spot, a good achievement for a newly-promoted club. However, their run-in sees them having to play all of the top three. It's been a story of two halves though with a great start followed by inconsistent form. A form guide for the last 15 league matches has them in 13th wtih just 15 points and three wins. The nine played before that had seen them get seven wins. They'd earned 19 points from their first seven league matches before that loss to Porto. Home form has seen them win six and lose three but only one of their last five has been won including a 7-0 thrashing by Santa Clara. Porto have the momentum and can get a win to put the pressure on second-placed Benfica who play the following day.
