With four matches remaining, Benfica will be looking to put up a spirited fight for the title and this Thursday, they visit Famalicao in the search for three points. Famalicao are fifth on 48 points while Benfica are second on 67 points. The hosts have had an impressive season and they stay in the hunt for a place in Europa League. They boosted this with a 1-0 win over Tondela in their last match, to end a three-match winless run. In the reverse fixture, they lost 4-0 to Benfica and in between they have met twice in the cup, with Benfica winning one and the other ending in a draw. They have never beaten Benfica, nor kept a clean sheet but having impressed since the league resumed, the team will be keen on a successive win, knowing too well the pressures at Benfica. In the 10 matches before the forced break, Famalicao had managed just one win but they resumed with purpose and have three wins in the six matches since the league restarted. They have failed to score in just two of the last six matches, but have conceded in four. Their first home match after resumption ended in a 2-1 win over FC Porto but they could not replicate the same in the next two home games, drawing 0-0 with Braga and losing 1-0 to Portimonense. In their recent home matches, Famalicao have not done so well; they have two wins in eight and have failed to score in half of those, while keeping just one clean sheet.

Benfica on the other hand, are enduring a tough run since football resumed and have fallen behind FC Porto in the title race. Earlier defeats to lower placed Santa Clara and Maritimo put a big dent on their title chances as Porto progressed and they will give all for three points here. In their last game, Benfica were clinical, with three first half goals, to beat Boavista 3-1 and having struggled a bit on the road, they will hope this turns out well. Benfica have two wins in their last eight away matches, and with one clean sheet but they have only failed to score in one of the eight. The team’s drop in the title chase has everything to do with the fact that they have won just three of their last 11 league games.
