Everton's problems on the road continued on Monday with a 1-0 loss at Tottenham. At the time of writing this preview, they are 11th in the Premier League, a point and two places above opponents Southampton. If Everton are to be challenging for honours as their owner wants them too, they need to sort their away form out. Everton have lost ten away league games this season and but for their home form would be in a relegation battle. They have won eight home league games this season with only three defeats. Everton come into this match undefeated in their last nine league games at Goodison Park. That includes wins over Chelsea and Leicester City, both currently in the top four.

Southampton had a surprise win over Manchester City on Sunday. That makes it three wins from their last four league fixtures, though the other two were against relegation-threatened Watford and Norwich City. Away form has been good this season, it has had to be considering how poorly they usually play at home. They have eight away league games but two losses at West Ham and Liverpool (seven goals conceded) show that Everton can get another home win from this game.
