Two of the bottom three in the Premier League face each other. 18th placed Everton host Southampton who are bottom of the table but won two cup games in the past week. Everton are only in the bottom three on goal difference from West Ham. It's strange how fixtures work out as the Hammers play Wolves this weekend, the other side in the bottom four places in the Premier League. It's an important weekend therefore, especially for Everton boss Frank Lampard. His team continue to struggle and since the season resumed, they've lost two league games, been knocked out of the FA Cup but did earn a point at Manchester City. Everton have only two points from their last six league games and just one win in the last ten. A form guide for the last ten Premier League games has them one from bottom with just five points. The only team below them in that form guide just happens to be Southampton and only behind Everton on goal difference. Home form for Everton has seen them lose their last three league games with eight goals conceded. Four of their last five at home have been lost and another defeat might just signal the end of Lampard's time at Goodison Park.

Southampton have already changed their boss this season. Nathan Jones is now in charge and he made a slow start to his time at St Mary's until the past week. The Saints have won at Crystal Palace in the FA Cup and then defeated Manchester City in the Carabao Cup to reach the semi-finals of that competition. They'd probably prefer six points rather than two cup wins because relegation to ththeie Championship is the last thing they need. Southampton only have 12 points from their 18 league games. Only three Premier League fixtures have been won which is less than the number they've won in cup competitions. Southampton have lost all three of the Premier League games they've played since the season resumed. That makes it six straight league losses with only one win in the last 13. On their travels, Southampton have lost six of the last seven Premier League fixtures. Will the cup wins breed confidence?
