Everton managed to match the threat offered by Liverpool for long periods and even threatened to turn tables on their hosts and it took a 96th minute goal from substitute Divock Origi to sink the Toffees. Ahead of their loss to Liverpool, Everton have managed two wins and a draw in the last three league matches and seemed on course for yet another clean sheet and point before the Kenyan – born Belgian forward intervened after rising from the bench. Everton however, have a good home run to look back to, having won each of their last four league matches at Goodison Park and have three clean sheets in the run, conceding just once and scoring nine goals. They have lost just once in the seven home matches they have played this season in the Premier League and the loss to West Ham United also remains their only one in the last 10 home matches. Their seven home matches have seen four end in over 2.5 goals, with Everton scoring in each of them. Everton have indeed, failed to score in just one of their last 15 home matches in the league, while they have suffered only two losses in the last 15 league matches. On the other hand, Newcastle United’s 0 – 3 loss to West Ham ended a fine run for the side, which had seen the Magpies pick three wins on the bounce to add to an earlier draw, with the run having pulled the team off the relegation region. A bad start to the season is what sees Newcastle stay low on the log and their performance against West Ham could have exposed their frailties once again, having already lost eight of their 14 matches so far. Newcastle have also not been very prolific in attack, scoring just 11 in their opening 14 league matches and have been even weaker in defence, letting in 19. Newcastle have suffered nine losses in the last 15 matches and managed just three wins in the process. They have managed just five wins in 36 Premier League matches away from home and with five straight losses to Everton, without scoring a goal, it will be hard to imagine Newcastle can get something from this clash.
