Everton are back in action in the Premier League, after the postponement of their last two matches; they will play host to Newcastle United. Eight points separate the sides but they are both in the lower half. Everton have so far managed 19 points, and are 15th while 19th placed Newcastle have 11 points. The hosts are really struggling coming into this game, with just one win in the last 11 matches. It is in defence that they’ve really struggled, and go to this game with just one clean sheet in the last 11 matches. In their last outing, in mid-December, Everton drew 1-1 with Chelsea in what was a marked improvement. That result, however, also marked the fourth straight game in which both sides have scored in Everton’s games.

Newcastle United are also having a poor run in the season. They are coming from a courageous output against Manchester United but they couldn’t bag three points after losing their early lead to see the game end 1-1. That result leaves them winless in the last four matches and they’ve failed to score in two of their last five matches. Newcastle United have one clean sheet in their last five matches and both sides have scored in two of their last three matches. The Magpies have been very poor defensively, that in their last four matches, they’ve conceded 12 goals. In that run, they’ve played tough matches though; they’ve faced Liverpool, Manchester City and Leicester City. Here they will feel this is a game they can win.
