Everton finished 2022 without a win in their final five Premier League matches but they will be glad they avoided defeat in their very last game of that year. Their 2023 schedule starts with a home game against Brighton, a game in which both sides will be looking to bounce back to winning ways. Everton have 15 points in 16th place and will be looking to prevail over a much higher placed Brighton, who are eighth with 24 points. Demarai Gray scored a second half equalizer for Everton against Manchester City in their last game, the teams battling to a 1-1 draw at the Etihad Stadium. It was a result that ensured they would enter 2023 outside the relegation zone and with that, they will view this as a winnable game. For Frank Lampard’s side, the target is to return to winning ways after five straight winless league games. Brighton’s last five matches have all produced over 2.5 goals, the team scoring two or more goals in four of their last five league games. They have conceded two or more goals in three of their last four matches and away from home, they’ve only failed to score in one of the last five games. Three times in the last five away league matches, Brighton have scored three goals.
