Two of the in-form teams battling relegation meet at Goodison Park on Saturday evening as Everton host Brentford. The home side stride confidently into this game on the back of a fantastic performance in their 2-0 win over Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Wednesday. That win moved the Toffees to just five points from safety. They’ve lost just one of their last five, albeit that was a 6-0 drubbing at Chelsea. Everton's excellent defensive performances at home have been the cornerstone of their three most recent wins at Goodison Park. They will also be confident in taking on Brentford, having comfortably beaten the London side when they met earlier in the season at the Brentford Community Stadium, securing a 3-1 victory.

After an awful run of games that saw Brentford win just two matches, draw one and lose 13 in the Premier League, Thomas Frank’s team have now gone their last five unbeaten. They have earned creditable draws with Manchester United, Brighton and Aston Villa in that run, plus two wins over relegation-battlers Sheffield United and most recently, a 5-1 away win over struggling Luton Town. They have struggled away from home in this campaign, with 11 defeats in their 17 away games so far this season. Their win over Luton last weekend was their first against a team ranked 14th or lower in the Premier League this season. Their recent record against Everton is also not that impressive, having lost both the last two matches against Sean Dyche’s team. With the pressure off them in terms of safety, will this help, or hinder Brentford as they take on a team in a similar position on Saturday?
