Tunisian giants Esperance will host ASEC Mimosas in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal tie. Second placed finishers in Group C, Esperance will be seeking a first leg advantage against the Ivorians, who topped Group B. Esperance were slow starters in the Champions League but finished strongly, with two wins. One win only in their opening four matches threatened their quest for a fifth African crown. However, wins against Etoile du Sahel and Al Hilal on Match Days 5 and 6 did the magic for them. They also did well defensively, keeping four straight clean sheets in the Champions League. In the run up to this game, Esperance have been in great form. They are unbeaten in 12 matches, and have just one loss in their last 16. In five straight games ahead of this, they posted wins. The most recent was a 1-0 victory over Club Africain, which also represented their fifth straight clean sheet. Brazilian Rodrigo Rodrigues scored the only goal, his third in as many matches, and will be an important player for the hosts.

Unlike Esperance, ASEC Mimosas were strong starters in their Champions League campaign. They won three of their opening four matches but didn’t finish as strong, failing to score in their final two games. Their loss to Wydad Casablanca on Match Day 6 ended their unbeaten run in Group B but they had done enough to top anyway. It hasn’t been a great period for them the last few games. The Abidjan side comes to this game with only a win in six matches. They haven't been scoring a lot lately and neither has it been consistent. In their last 10 matches, they failed to score in six and managed more than a goal in just one. ASEC Mimosas will find it even tougher here going by their away form. They have no win in the last five away matches, losing four. The visitors even failed to score in their last four away matches. This will be their first meeting with Esperance since 2007. Their four-game unbeaten run against the Tunisians is under real threat here.
