England's Lionesses face Austria women on Friday night in an international friendly. The Lionnesses missed out on a place in the Nations League semi-finals as they were pipped to the top of the group by the Netherlands and they now start building for the next big international tournament, the European Championships. Sarina Weigman's team are ranked 4th in the world by FIFA behind Spain, USA and France and their opponents Austria are ranked 17th in those rankings. The game takes place in Spain at the Estadio Nuevo Mirador in Cadiz, which will also be the venue for England's Lionesses game with Italy Women on Tuesday 27th February. Manager Weigman has named three uncapped players in the squad, Khiara Keating, Millie Turner and Grace Clinton. Leah Williamson's return from a lengthy injury spell was curtailed by her having to withdraw from the squad but Beth Mead and Fran Kirby are both back in the squad after missing the World Cup.
Austria manager Irene Fuhrmann has named an experienced squad for this game and they come into it on the back of three wins in their last four, their only defeat a 3-0 loss to France in Rennes in the Nations League. Two players, keeper Manuela Zinsberger (Arsenal) and midfielder Marie Hobinger (Liverpool) play league football in the Women's Super League. Austria have four players with well over 100 caps in their squad, plus two more who have amassed over 95 caps. 1899 Hoffenheim striker Nicole Billa is their main attacking threat having scored 47 goals in 96 caps for her country.
