England wrapped up their preparations for the UEFA Women’s Championship on a high, with a 4-0 win over Switzerland and will be hoping to start strongly against Austria in Group A. Playing at Old Trafford, England are expected to enjoy massive support, and their run to this game will attract just that. The team has six straight wins ahead of this game and in the last five matches, has only conceded one goal. Meanwhile, they’ve scored 27 in the last five matches. In 2017, England fell at the semi finals stage, losing 3-0 to a Vivianne Miedema inspired Netherlands side but this time the feeling is that they are better prepared and home advantage will work for them.
Austria are also a formidable group; in the last Euros, they fell at the semifinal stage as well. They drew 0-0 with Denmark but lost 3-0 on post match penalties. They will be looking to go all the way this time and the hurdle they face at the start will give them a real test. They wrapped up their pre-tournament preparations with a 1-0 win over Belgium in a friendly match. That was their fourth win in five matches but they have one loss in there. They faced Denmark in their first friendly game and lost 2-1 though the positive is that they’ve registered at least a goal in each of their last eight matches. They may not be as strong as England in attack, but they have goals in them. In the last five games they’ve scored two or more in three matches.
