England vs USA Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Joseph King | in World Cup Predictions
A huge Group B matchup in the 2022 World Cup sees the kindred nations of England and the United States facing off at Al Bayt Stadium for this 10 PM local kickoff time. England will be hoping to carry over the blistering attacking form which saw them smash six goals past Iran in a brilliant 6-2 opening match victory. The result has the Three Lions in prime position to advance from the group and a win over the Americans would seal England’s place in the round of 16. They could even win the group in the second matchday if Wales fail to defeat Iran. Standing in their way is a USA side looking for an improved performance after their 1-1 draw with Wales in the opening fixture. While a point may not necessarily be required to advance, this young American team cannot afford to suffer a heavy defeat in this match.

England - USA: Form Analysis
England ended their six match winless run in style with an impressive demolition job of Iran in a match that was essentially over at half-time. It was one-way traffic for most of the contest with the English controlling 78% of the possession. Iran were able to strike back with two consolation goals, the first coming when they were trailing 4-0 and the second by way of the penalty spot deep into stoppage time. The emphatic win will perhaps quell what was a growing section of supporters far from pleased with the tactical decisions of manager Gareth Southgate.
The old football adage “a tale of two halves” is a perfect way to describe the events that took place in the USA’s matchup with Wales on Monday. The Americans started the match positively and threatened a number of times before eventually opening the scoring with a brilliant poke finish from Timothy Weah after being played in by Christian Pulisic. Wales manager Rob Page must have given quite the half-time team talk as the United States could not deal with the improved Welsh team after the break. They would eventually concede a penalty to Gareth Bale after allowing Wales to create three clear cut scoring chances in the second 45 minutes alone.

England & USA Squad Analysis
Gareth Southgate’s decision to move to a back four paid off as England’s 4-2-3-1 formation looked dynamic going forward. Fans will hope the team continue in that shape but the manager might have been concerned with the team conceding two goals to a defensive-minded Iran team. England are facing a few injury concerns with captain Harry Kane the primary focus. The 29-year-old appeared to suffer an ankle injury after a hard challenge before eventually being subbed off in the 75th minute. Kane’s availability is still in question for the match against the USA and Southgate may very well err on the side of caution, turning to the likes of Callum Wilson to lead the line for the Three Lions.
The United States picked up two worrying injuries of their own when promising midfielders Weston McKennie and Yunus Musah both coming off in the second half. The 19-year-old Valencia talent Musah appeared to suffer a toe injury while Juventus’ McKennie had noticeable discomfort in his groin. The result could see Leeds’ Brenden Aaronson get the start while Dortmund’s hugely talented wonderkid Gio Reyna could also be in line to make his first World Cup appearance.

Our England vs USA Prediction
We’re going to back England to win the match as our bet for this game. The USA could very well be catching this England team at the worst possible time as the Three Lions will likely be playing with a renewed sense of confidence after their six goal performance against Iran. While this is a talented young USA team, their inexperience has often shown when they play in away matches which has seen them struggle to get results when not on their home soil. They'll have to come with a much improved performance than the one against Wales if they are to stand a chance here, but will likely be simply outclassed by England’s star-studded squad.
