England vs Slovenia Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Ian John in Euro Predictions
Out-of-sorts England face Slovenia in their final Group C game on Tuesday night. Gareth Southgate’s team has underperformed at the tournament so far. Lacklustre performances against Serbia and Denmark have England fans worried. In fact, the only positive is that despite those poor displays, England secured four points from those two games to lie top of the group.
Battling Slovenia has drawn both its group games so far, both by a 1-1 scoreline. Head coach Matjaz Kek will be attempting to be the first Slovenian manager to get his team out of the group stages of a major tournament. Slovenia failed to reach the knockout phase previously at the 2002 and 2010 World Cups and the 2000 European Championships. Being knocked out by England in the latter tournament. Will Gareth Southgate ring the changes to try and awaken England from their torpor? Will Slovenia take advantage of England’s lethargic displays to land a historic victory? All will be revealed on Tuesday night!
Our prediction for the England vs Slovenia match is: Both Teams to Score - Yes.

England - Slovenia: Form Analysis
2024 has not been a vintage year for England. Defeat to Brazil in their first game in March was followed by a fortunate 2-2 draw with Belgium, only earned through Jude Bellingham’s late injury time leveller.
In June, they produced their best performance in a 3-0 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina but a few days later lost at Wembley 1-0 to Iceland. They beat Serbia 1-0 in their opener but were far from impressive and then struggled badly once again drawing 1-1 with Denmark in their second group game.
England have won just two of their last seven games and that combined with the poor quality performance has England fans worried. Gareth Southgate tends not to make too many changes to his teams in major tournaments.
He may need to in order to galvanise this England team into putting in a better performance against Slovenia. England were tournament favourites before Euro 2024. Their most recent performances suggest that they are anything but at present.
Slovenia has proven to be a solid team in this group. They were fully deserving of their 1-1 draw with Denmark in their opening game and almost beat Serbia until they conceded a 95th-minute equaliser.
They are also in excellent form. Unbeaten in 2024, they have lost just once in their last 13 games in all competitions, including eight wins and four draws in that run. One of those victories was an impressive 2-0 win over Portugal in the lead-up to this tournament.
England should be aware that this Slovenian team can exploit its poor form to land a surprise win here. However, in six games against England, Slovenia has lost five and drawn just once.
History may suggest England has the upper hand here, but based on both teams' recent performances, that is difficult to believe.

England & Slovenia Squad Analysis
Gareth Southgate’s calculated risk of taking Luke Shaw to the tournament while injured seems to have backfired. The Manchester United left-back is seemingly suffering a setback in training this week and looks unlikely to feature in the tournament.
Several changes to the England team have been mooted in the press ahead of the game, but Southgate is keeping tight-lipped about his team. Trent Alexander-Arnold may be dropped from his midfield role, while there are calls for Cole Palmer and Anthony Gordon to be given a chance - neither having featured for England at the tournament so far.
Slovenia will be without the injured Sandi Lovric for this game but manager Kek will likely keep faith with the team that came close to defeating Serbia in their last group match. Slovenia do have four players on a yellow card for this game (Stojanovic, Celar, Janza and Vipotnik).
Right-back Zan Karnicnik scored a goal and was Slovenia’s best player in the draw with Serbia, but England will also be aware of the dangers of strikers Benjamin Sesko and Andraz Sporar, who are more than capable of giving England’s defence real problems on Tuesday night.

Our England vs Slovenia Prediction
Our prediction for the England vs Slovenia Group C encounter at Euro 2024 is: Both Teams to Score - Yes.
Slovenia, a team of impressive resilience, come into this game unbeaten in their last eight games, albeit drawing the last three. They had credible wins over the USA and Portugal in that run, and they showed that they were no pushovers against Denmark and Serbia.
England, despite being pre-tournament favourites, have been well below par.
That's despite beating Serbia and drawing with Denmark. They still top the group, and a win (or even a draw - depending on the other result in the group) could see them secure the top spot. But it is hard to back England to win against anybody at the moment, given their tactical approach to games.
So, our prediction here is to follow the data, which shows a good opportunity for both teams to find the net in this game.
England vs Slovenia - Other Interesting Predictions
Over 2.5 Goals
After a somewhat cagey start in Group C, with three of the four games played all finishing as a draw, we are now at the point where teams know what they need to achieve to qualify.
That, we feel, will make this game more open than previous Group C encounters. England boss Gareth Southgate is also likely to make some big changes for this game, after huge criticism of his team's performance, especially against Denmark.
England though have performed in a similar way in previous tournaments, but have come good in the third game in the group. We think they will do so again here and earn the win to top the group. As such, that makes the Over 2.5 Goals bet a good option as a secondary bet.
Harry Kane (England) to score at any time
Harry Kane didn't let us down when selected as an anytime goalscorer in England's game with Denmark, and despite a below display from the England skipper, he still grabbed the crucial goal.
It is rare that Kane has two poor performances in a row for England, and we expect him to come good again against Slovenia. Calls for him to be dropped are a little harsh, given that he has barely had any service in the two games England have played so far.
Given his outstanding goal record for his country, and the fine season he enjoyed personally at Bayern Munich, our final secondary prediction is for Harry Kane to find the net at any time in this game.

England and Slovenia first met in 2009 and since then, the teams have met six times, England winning five and the other being a draw.
Most recently, England won a World Cup Qualifier in October 2017 1-0 at Wembley.
England have scored 10 goals against Slovenia in those games, conceding just four in reply.
They have met once previously in a major finals, at the 2010 World Cup, where England were 1-0 winners.
A win for England would ensure them of qualifying from Group C as the group winners. A draw would also be enough to qualify, but depending on the result in the Denmark v Serbia game, England could drop to second spot on goal difference.
England can lose this game and still qualify either by finishing second in the group (if Denmark and Serbia finish as a draw) or as one of the best third-placed teams in the Group Stages.
A win for Slovenia would ensure them of qualifying as either group winners or in second, depending on the result of the Denmark v Serbia game.
However, the permutations for Slovenia are complex if they were to draw the game, with the result of the other fixture in the group deciding whether they finish second or third in the group with Denmark or Serbia.
If Slovenia lose, then they will likely be eliminated, even if they were to finish third in the group with two points.
