England - Slovakia: Form Analysis
England are unbeaten at Euro 2024 so far, but a 1-0 win over Serbia followed by a 1-1 draw with Denmark and a 0-0 draw with Slovenia has hardly given their fans hope that they can go on and win the tournament.
In truth, England's form in 2024 has been poor.
Defeats at Wembley to Brazil and Iceland were disappointing. A 2-2 draw with Belgium was very fortunate due to a very late equalizer from Jude Bellingham, while their sole wins have come against Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia.
That has to improve and it is up to manager Gareth Southgate to find the answer. What is abundantly clear is that despite arguably the most talented squad in the tournament, the England manager is struggling to utilise his best players in his currency system.
One positive they have is that they have not lost to Slovakia in six games, drawing just one and winning the others. However, if England are to be genuine contenders in this tournament, they need to find form and goals very quickly.
Slovakia caused the first big upset of the tournament when they defeated Belgium 1-0 in their opening group game. It was a real smash-and-grab performance by the Slovakians who saw VAR come to their aid on several occasions and Belgium did everything but score a goal.
Defeat followed against the Ukraine in a 2-1 loss, but they then drew 1-1 with Romania. Good enough for third place in a group where all four teams finished on four points.
Slovakia have achieved their dream of reaching the knockout phase, now they stand a chance of another giant-killing upset. Especially against an England team so out-of-sorts. Although it should be remembered that they never beat England in a game in six attempts, losing five.
Whoever progresses from the England v Slovenia tie will go on to the quarterfinals to face the winner of the Switzerland v Italy Round of 16 game.

England & Slovakia Squad Analysis
The clamour for England manager Gareth Southgate to make changes to his team and tactics is growing. Three poor displays and a lack of chances created and goals have made England fans unhappy at the way the team is performing.
Kobie Mainoo is likely to come into midfield for the Three Lions ahead of Conor Gallagher, who was largely ineffective against Slovenia. Luke Shaw is fit enough to be considered for a spot on the bench but is unlikely to start in the problematic left-back role.
It is in attack where England have to solve their main issues.
The form of Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden is a huge concern.
Cole Palmer showed great promise in his 15-minute cameo against Slovenia and many fans want him to start in place of Bellingham or Foden. Whether Southgate is brave enough to make that call remains to be seen.
Like England, Slovakia have not made too many changes to their team in this tournament and they are unlikely to be much changed for this game too. Martin Dubravka in goal and defender Milan Skriniar are the standout performers defensively, with the midfield trio of Lobotka, Duda and Kucka hugely impressive.
In attack Slovakia can call on Ivan Schranz, who has two goals in the tournament so far and who has been Slovakia's most dangerous attacker.

Our England vs Slovakia Prediction
Our prediction for the England vs Slovakia Euro 2024 Round of 16 tie is: England to win to nil.
The Three Lions have not performed at their best in Euro 2024 so far. In fact, they were very poor. However, they dominated the game against Slovenia, especially in the second half, but they just could not find a way through.
This is a similar story from previous big tournaments where England limped out of the group stages, but found form in the knockout phase, and Gareth Southgate will be hoping that is the case here.
Slovakia surprised Belgium with a somewhat fortuitous win in their opening game. But since then, they lost to Ukraine and then were held by Romania. They have a poor record against England, although their only draw against England came in the Euro 2016 finals group stage.
However, the odds are against them here, and even if they are unconvincing, England should win this one without conceding a goal.
England vs Slovakia - Other Interesting Predictions
Phil Foden (England) to score at any time.
Phil Foden left the England squad this week to await the birth of his third child. That break may have done him a world of good against the backdrop of some poor performances by the team in the last two games. The Manchester City star is expected to keep his place in the team and he has looked the brightest of England's attackers in the last couple of games.
If England are to unlock the Slovakian defense, Foden will be key and if he operates more centrally in this game, our feeling is that he will get a chance or two and that he is talented enough to take at least one of them.
So our secondary prediction is for Phil Foden to score at any time.
Cole Palmer (England) to score at any time.
The Chelsea man may have only had 15 minutes or so in Euro 2024 so far, but he showed real purpose, individuality and a willingness to take people on, as well as creating a couple of chances. He showed the kind of flair and invention England have sorely lacked in attack at this tournament.
With Jude Bellingham struggling for form, our feeling is Bellingham could be rested for this game, allowing Foden to play more centrally and Palmer to come into the wide position vacated by Foden. If he does, then he showed against Slovenia that he is a genuine goal threat.
However, even if he does not start, Palmer will likely feature as a substitute, given how he impacted the game against Slovenia. Therefore, our secondary prediction here is for another anytime goalscorer bet, but this time on Cole Palmer.
