The underdogs, Senegal, will fetch odds of 8.00 for those punters thinking they can pull off the upset, while a draw comes in at odds of 3.8.
England - Senegal: Form Analysis
England needed a strong response after their goalless draw with the United States in the second matchday. A 3-0 victory over their historic rivals Wales, which included a brace by Marcus Rashford, should put the Three Lions in excellent spirits ahead of their round of 16 clash. On paper, this England side has the talent to be compared with the very best teams in the competition but recent results point to a team that is underperforming. England’s build up to the 2022 World Cup was disastrous as Gareth Southgate’s team failed to win a single one of their six Nations League matches, drawing three and losing the other three. The hope among supporters is that the team will step up their play on the world’s biggest stage and so far the players have delivered.
On the other side, Senegal come into this match off the back of two victories and a loss in Group A to finish second behind the Netherlands. It was a gutsy group stage performance from the defending African champions, who many will have forgiven for a failure to bounce back after the news that their talisman Sadio Mane will have to miss the tournament as well as their 2-0 defeat to the Dutch in the opening match. The Lions of Taranga responded by scoring five goals in their following two matches, proving there is much more to the side than simply Mane’s influence. Senegal will be confident of finding the net in this match, having scored in 13 of their last 14 fixtures, but could find things difficult against an England defense that is coming off back-to-back clean sheets and rarely looked troubled against Wales.

England & Senegal Squad Analysis
There are no fresh injury concerns for England manager Gareth Southgate as he saw a number of players return in recent days. Kyle Walker was one of those players, as the Manchester City man came back into the starting 11 against Wales in place of Newcastle fullback Kieran Trippier. The only news from the England squad has been that Arsenal defender Ben White has returned home citing “personal reasons” and will not partake in the rest of the competition.
Senegal manager Aliou Cisse will have to cope with the absence of influential midfielder Idrissa Gana Gueye after the Everton player picked up his second yellow card of the competition, thus ruling him out of the round of 16 clash. It’s a cruel blow to a team already missing their brightest talent in Sadio Mane. Gueye has been crucial to Senegal’s game plan, even lining up in the #10 positions in two of the three matches when Senegal opted for a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Our England vs Senegal Prediction
With England looking to have settled into a defensive groove with two impressive performances in consecutive matches, we’re backing them to get the win here and keep a clean sheet. Senegal showed heart to recover from a matchday one defeat to the Dutch with two excellent performances in the following two matches. Unfortunately for them they will be matched up against one of the tournament favorites in England. With the Three Lions in good goal scoring form after putting three past Wales, back the English to win to nil in this match and advance to the quarter finals.
