England vs Iceland Prediction & Betting Tips - International Friendlies

by Steve Ashfield | in Football Predictions

England play their final match before the start of Euro 2024. After Monday's hard-fought win over Bosnia & Herzegovina, they take on Iceland at Wembley. Gareth Southgate will be looking for another good performance from his team and also hope his injury list starts to clear up. Iceland aren't at Euro 2024 but England fans won't need reminding how they got on against them in the 2016 European Championships. Whereas Monday's game was played in Newcastle, this match sees England back at Wembley Stadium.

England - Iceland: Form Analysis

The Three Lions beat Bosnia & Herzegovina 3-0 on Monday but all their goals came in the second half. Their opponents defended well in the first half and it was only a Cole Palmer penalty that broke the deadlock in the 60th minute. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Harry Kane (who came on as a substitute) scored late goals to give England a flattering 3-0 victory. That was their first win of 2024 after losing to Brazil and drawing with Belgium in March. Both  of those games were played at Wembley and England were fortunate to avoid two defeats. They needed a late Jude Bellingham goal to earn them a 2-2 draw with Belgium. The loss to Brazil is the only one they've had inflicted on them in their last eight matches. This is their final match before going to Euro 2024 where they take on Serbia, Denmark and Slovenia in their group.

Iceland could only finish fourth in their Euro 2024 qualifying group and were 12 points behind the top two. All their three wins in that group were against the bottom two sides, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Liechtenstein. Iceland are playing the first of two international friendlies they have this month. The other sees them travel to the Netherlands on June 10. They'll be using the games to prepare for their Nations League group that sees them play Turkey, Wales and Montenegro. Their last match was in March and that ended in a disappointing 2-1 loss to Ukraine after taking an early lead. Over 90 minutes they have only won four of their last 15 games. Wins have come against countries such as Guatemala and Honduras. They famously knocked England out of the 2016 European Championships but are not at that level in 2024. We tip England to win this match and lead at both half and full time.

Our England vs Iceland Prediction

It's the final chance for Gareth Southgate to see how well his players are doing before Euro 2024. He should have a pretty good idea of who won't be making the final squad but a good performance by some players here might make him change his mind. England struggled at times on Monday but eventually saw their way past a tough Bosnian defence. Iceland failed to qualify for Euro 2024 and are unlikely to get another shock result against England. Our England v Iceland prediction is England to lead at both half and full time.
