England vs Germany Prediction & Betting Tips - Euro
by Daniel Ngulu | in Euro Predictions
Matches between England and Germany are mostly epic, and after over a decade without a competitive game between the two giants, they get to face off in the second round of Euro 2020. England topped Group D with seven points and Germany were second in Group F with four points, and here they are, both seeking a place in the quarters. England will be glad to host this game at Wembley, termed the home of English football and for the two managers, this game has key significance. England lost to Germany on post match penalties at Wembley in Euro 96 and it was Gareth Southgate’s penalty miss that handed Germany the ticket to the final. On the German side, Joachim Loew will be stepping down after this tournament and he will be hoping this isn’t his final match. In the run up to this game, England have had concerns over Mason Mount and Ben Chilwell’s Covid-19 situations and they missed the Czech Republic game, while Phil Foden was left out of the game or fear of getting suspended for this game, as he had a yellow card. Meanwhile, Harry Maguire played full time the game against Czech and Jordan Henderson was a second half sub and did well. John Stones seemed to have an issue in the game, but Southgate will hope he recovers in time to partner Maguire. England head to this game unbeaten in their last nine matches, winning eight of those. Defensively, they are among the best sides at the moment, keeping eight clean sheets in their last nine matches but the same can’t be said of their attack, the team having scored no more than a goal in the last five matches.
Germany haven’t had a very smooth run in this competition; they managed one win at the group stage and Joachim Loew promised a different side in the knockout stages. They get to start this phase against England, a team they’ve beaten thrice in the last five meetings, and lost once to. In their last competitive meeting, Germany beat England 4-1 at the 2010 World Cup and Thomas Muller, who is in the current squad, scored two in that rout. Muller didn’t feature against Hungary in their last game as Germany battled to a 2-2 draw to save face. The fact that he wasn’t thrown in the fray as Germany chased the game could suggest he isn’t fit enough. The difference with England is that Germany are more lethal in attack and it will be interesting to see how this plays out against a very defensive England side. Germany have failed to score in just one of their last eight matches and in their last five matches alone, they’ve scored 14 goals. Meanwhile, they aren’t the best defensive side around and will have to improve a lot against England, having failed to keep a clean sheet in their last six matches.

Our England vs Germany Prediction
Among the teams that advanced to the second round, England were the lowest scorers. There’s an emphasis on defence in the team and here they get to face a side with a very good attack and it promises to be a cracker. In their last two matches, Germany have come from behind and scored six goals and it is this goal threat that England will have to deal with. England’s bluntness in attack will come to haunt them here. While we can’t rule out England scoring, they’ll really have to improvise to get the right balance in defence and attack. Going by the amount of goals scored recently, we are backing the Germans for a win here.
