The German Bundesliga enters Round 30, with Eintracht Frankfurt hosting Augsburg in the first game of the round on Friday. Frankfurt sit in the final European slot, three points ahead of Augsburg who are just a place below them. That makes this a very interesting Bundesliga fixture. The calendar year 2024 hasn’t been great for Eintracht Frankfurt, they come into this game having won just four of their last 15 matches. Right ahead of this game, they have no win in the last four matches. Their hopes for a top five finish suffered another big blow in the 3-0 defeat to Stuttgart last time out. That defeat left them 14 points behind Borussia Dortmund. It was also the second time in three matches that they failed to score while they have just one clean sheet in 10 matches. Both teams scored in eight of Eintracht Frankfurt’s last 10 matches in all competitions. Their 2-1 loss to Augsburg in their last meeting meant they’ve failed to win this fixture in the last two attempts. A run of eight matches unbeaten at home will however give them hopes for a bounce-back after the tough run in recent times.

At the height of Eintracht Frankfurt’s four-game skid, Augsburg took advantage to close in, boosting their chances for Europe. While Eintracht Frankfurt gained two points from a possible 12, Augsburg bagged seven. At 39 points, they are now just three behind Eintracht Frankfurt, though with an inferior goal difference. Heading into this game, Augsburg beat Union Berlin 2-0 to continue with their rise towards the top six. While Eintracht Frankfurt may view the Conference League as their lower target, Augsburg will do all at this stage to get into the top six. As the league progresses towards its conclusion, sixth place is seemingly the spot that will have a lot of competition. Only six points separate Eintracht Frankfurt from the three sides below them. The last time Augsburg played away from home, they lost to a top six contender in Hoffenheim. They will be keen not to drop points against another direct competitor. It is however noteworthy that with Bayer Leverkusen in contention for the DFB Pokal, the seventh placed finisher may still qualify for Europe.
