Egypt and Tanzania will be completing their final preparations for the AFCON when they face off in a friendly on Sunday afternoon. The hosts are currently ranked fifth by FIFA among African nations, while the visitors are ranked 31st. Egypt have been very good since missing out on qualification for the last World Cup. They steamrolled their opponents in qualifying for the upcoming AFCON competition, finishing top of their group. During qualifying they recorded five wins and a draw in their six group stage matches and ended five points clear of Guinea in second place. Since then, they beat Zambia 1-0 and drew 1-1 with Algeria in friendly games before flexing their strength again in the CAF World Cup qualifiers. The first World Cup qualifier saw the Pharaohs thump Djibouti 6-0 before outplaying Sierra Leone to claim a 2-0 away win. Egypt are now unbeaten in their last four in all competitions and have kept three clean sheets in that time. They have also won the last five against this opponent and are the favorites for Sunday’s showdown. 

Meanwhile, Tanzania have improved over the last few years and showed that during the AFCON qualifiers. They were drawn into a tricky group that included Algeria, Uganda, and Niger and battled valiantly to secure qualification. In their six qualification matches, they recorded two wins, two draws and two losses, edging out Uganda by a single point to claim second place behind Algeria. In World Cup qualifying, they are one of four sides in their group that are level on three points after two matches. Over their last five matches in all competitions, Tanzania have only lost once, which was against Morocco back in November. Notably, the visitors are unbeaten in their last four away games and have lost only two of their last ten. Still, against an African powerhouse like Egypt, they are likely to struggle in this one.
