Egypt and Sudan face off for the second time in just over one month but on different platforms. The two nations will be battling for three points in Group D of the 2021 AFCON, seeking places in the second round after rather slow starts. Egypt have three points going inti this game while Sudan have one. In their second game in this group, Egypt just managed to break down a stubborn Guinea-Bissau, winning 1-0 to set themselves well for this final group game. It will however be all lost if they lose to Sudan here and that’s why this game is key for them, as it is for Sudan. In three of their last four matches, Egypt went winless and they have also lost twice in the last three AFCON matches. However, they have six wins in 10 AFCON matches and in the last 31 AFCON games, they’ve suffered just three losses – to Cameroon, South Africa and Nigeria.

In December, these two nations faced off in the inaugural FIFA Arab Cup, and Egypt thrashed Sudan 5-0, making it four straight wins over their neighbors. In these four matches, Sudan have scored just one goal and conceded 17. Now they face off with an even stronger Egypt side than the one that was at the Arab Cup. It will be tough for Sudan, who go to this game without a win in their last 13 matches and having failed to score in eight of those 13 matches. They are coming from a 3-1 loss to Nigeria, having earlier drawn 0-0 with Guinea-Bissau, extending their poor run at the AFCON. In their nine matches at AFCON, Sudan have managed just one win, a 2-1 shock victory over Burkina Faso in AFCON 2012. They have conceded two or more goals in six of their last nine matches in this competition and have six losses. Sudan have failed to score in six of their nine matches in the competition too.
