It has been a shaky ride for Egypt in their past few matches and they will be among the African giants that will not be gracing the 2022 World Cup. They are set to take on Liberia in an international friendly to mark the close of this FIFA week. Egypt are coming from a 3-0 win over Niger, a game that saw Mo Salah score twice, in their second win in five matches. They’ve lost three of the last five matches, failing to score in two of them. Of their three losses, the 2-0 defeat to Ethiopia was the most shocking one but they will be glad to host this game. At home, Egypt have five straight wins and four clean sheets.
Liberia have met Egypt two times before, in friendly matches and lost both games. They will head to Alexandria for this game, as the underdogs, having also failed to score a goal in their earlier two games against Egypt. Liberia were last in action in July when they beat Senegal’s home based national team 2-1 in the African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. That happens to be their only win in six matches, with all the rest being losses. They have failed to score four times in the last six matches and they thus take into this game a poor run in attack. Four times in the last six matches, Liberia conceded two or more goals.
