Ecuador vs Colombia Prediction & Betting Tips - World Cup
by Joseph King in World Cup Predictions
Seventh-place Ecuador takes on third-place Colombia for the fourth of 18 scheduled matchday in South America’s 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. The notoriously difficult CONMEBOL region has gotten a bit easier thanks to the expanded format of the tournament for the 2026 iteration. Six teams will automatically qualify (up from five for 2022) with seventh-place entering into an inter-confederation playoff to determine their fate.
Ecuador have experienced a strong start to the qualifying group with two wins from their first three matches. However, a three point deduction due to falsifying documents for a player means that La Tri sits down in seventh with three points. Even with the deduction, this talented Ecuadorian team is expected to make the qualifying cut with little hassle. They’re on a strong run of form overall with five wins from their last six matches. The most recent of which ended with a 96th-minute Kevin Rodriguez goal to secure the full three points in a 2-1 win over Bolivia in La Paz. It marks Ecuador’s second consecutive victory after a come-from-behind 2-1 home win over Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay last month. The only defeat for Ecuador on their current run was a 1-0 away loss to defending world champions Argentina.
Colombia were on the wrong side of a late goal when they took on Uruguay in their most recent outing. It proved to be a highly-entertaining match that was back-and-forth with plenty of chances for both sides. A 90th-minute Darwin Nuñez penalty meant that both teams would have to share the spoils in a 2-2 draw. Despite not being able to secure the victory in Barranquilla, the stalemate extended Colombia’s unbeaten run to 14 games. They’ve now drawn their last two after opening the qualifying campaign with a 1-0 home victory over Venezuela. The team has been hugely impressive under Nestor Lorenzo who took over in June of 2022 and has yet to lose as Colombia manager.

Our Ecuador vs Colombia Prediction
These two sides appear to be very evenly matched and each possess their own top Premier League talent in Chelsea's Moises Caicedo and Liverpool's Luis Diaz. Ecuador will be feeling good after back-to-back wins and with the match taking place in Quito. However, Colombia will also be high in confidence as it is approaching two full years since they last tasted defeat. We have this one closer than the bookmakers suggest as they clearly lean towards the hosts to get the win. Therefore, we’ll gladly take the great odds on the double chance and back Los Cafeteros to push their unbeaten run to an impressive 15 games. Our Ecuador vs Colombia prediction is for Colombia on the double chance.
