Dundee United ended up third in the Scottish Championship 14 points behind champions Hibernian. That was enough to get them into the play-offs and so far they have defeated fourth placed Morton 5-1 on aggregate and then second placed Falkirk 4-3 over two legs. That puts them in this play-off final against Hamilton Academical who finished one from bottom in the Premiership and now have to defeat Dundee United over two legs to keep their top league status. They lost four of their last six league games but won the other two, both against United's neighbours Dundee who finished a place above them in the table. Hamilton have only lost two of their last nine league games but it was eight losses in the last ten away matches that is the reason they are in this position now. Dundee United are unbeaten in their 11 league and play-off matches and had the best home record in the league, their single defeat being by champions Hibernian but only won four away games. Go for a home win here but it most certainly won't be all over for Hamilton if they do lose this first leg.
