Matchday eight in the League of Ireland Premier Division sees third-place Drogheda hosting fifth-placed Waterford. The Drogs hold a three-point lead over the Blues although it’s still early days in the season. Here’s our match prediction!

After an unbeaten 3-2-0 start to the season, Drogheda have hit their first stumbling block. A missed penalty at the death saw the hosts lose 2-1 at home in matchday six and they needed a second-half equalizer to salvage a point in a 1-1 away draw with Cork City last week.

Drogheda are now sitting on 12 points with three wins, three draws and one defeat, putting them just a single point off league-leaders St. Patrick’s. It’s been an impressive turnaround for the defending FAI Cup winners who finished second from bottom last season.

Waterford started the season by taking nine points from a possible 12 in the first four matches. Since then, however, the Blues have seen their form drop off a cliff.

Waterford have now lost their last three league matches in a row and their last four across all competitions following a 1-0 away defeat to Rockmount AFC in the Munster Senior Cup on Tuesday. It marked the third time in the last four appearances that the visitors have failed to find the net, during which time they’ve conceded seven.
