They haven't won the tournament since 1974 when known as Zaire. They come into this tournament unbeaten in their last five games. However, four of those matches have ended in draws and they have only won one of their last nine games. Their last two games have both ended level and eight of their last nine games have had under 2.5 goals scored in them.
Uganda are ranked 31 places below their opponents. They had gone 39 years without appearing in the finals which is disappointing considering they were runners-up in the 1978 tournament. They had gone four games without a win until beating the Ivory Coast on June 15. Six of their last seven games have had under 2.5 goals scored in them.
