Neither of these sides reached the last World Cup finals and for Ireland you have to go back to 2002 for their last appearance. Denmark finished second behind Poland in Group E and four points ahead of Montenegro in third. They go into this play-off in good form on an unbeaten run of nine games but four of those have ended in draws. Since that loss Denmark have played four games without defeat and have only lost one of their last ten matches at home. Goals have been in short supply though with five of their last eight games seeing under 2.5 goals scored. Ireland needed a win in Wales to take second place in Group D and that kept up their unbeaten away run in that group winning three and drawing two. They have won their last two games but before that had gone seven without a win and have only scored nine goals in their last nine matches. Their last five games have all had under 2.5 goals scored and with the aim of keeping it tight and getting a good result to take back home for the second leg, a draw with under 2.5 goals is the selection for this match.
