Germany U21 finished as runners up in the last UEFA U21 European Championships edition in Italy. They will be hoping to go one better when they face a familiar foe in Denmark U21 as the competition enters the last eight stage. While these two nations have met in each of the last three editions of this competition, none of them has been at the knockout stage, and Germany have won all, scoring three goals in each. Denmark go to this game on the back of three straight wins at the group stage and managed three clean sheets in those. After wins over France and Iceland, they thrashed Russia 3-0 to book their place in the quarters. Denmark U21 were remarkable in settling fast in their matches at the group stage. Four of the six goals they managed at that stage came in the first half, all before the 20th minute. With a 16-game unbeaten run, the Danes will feel it is the right time to end Germany’s dominance after losing in four straight meetings.

Germany U21 are seeking a third Euro U21 title after their triumphs in 2009 and 2017. They will feel they can go a step further after losing to Spain in Italy in the final in the last edition. Germany started this competition on a high, beating Hungary 3-0, but they lost the spark in the following two matches, registering two draws, with Netherlands and Romania. They finished as runners up in Group A, but level with leaders Netherlands on five points. In Anderlecht’s Lucas Nmecha and Wolfsburg’s Ridle Baku, they have top forwards, and indeed these two have scored all their goals in the competition so far. Germany are unbeaten in their last seven matches and going to this clash, will be looking to reignite the performance that saw them thrash Hungary in the opening game.
