DC United will be hoping for a better season in the Major League Soccer (MLS) this term, and they open their campaign with a home match against New York City FC. Last season, DC United finished 13th after managing just five wins in the Eastern Conference and they haven’t had a very encouraging run in preseason. They won one of their last four preseason friendly matches, keeping no clean sheet in any, but scoring in three. The low finish forced club to change the management and for the first time there’ll be a new man in charge as Argentinian Hernan Losada replaces Ben Olsen. Losada is coming from Belgian side Beerschot and he will have a few new players joining in as well, including Nigel Robertha from Bulgarian giants Levski Sofia, Venezuelan Jovanny Bolivar and Brendan Hines-Ike. The team didn’t lose any top players so they should be stronger this season.

New York City have had a rather positive preseason. Back to last season, they managed a fifth place finish but were eliminated early from the post season playoffs. They went on to suffer a 4-0 loss to Tigres in the CONCACAF Champions League but from then they’ve picked up well. In the last four preseason matches, they’ve won all scored two or more goals in each, with two clean sheets in the last three. New York City have stated their ambition to go higher than fifth in the Eastern Conference with the signing of Malte Amundsen, the Denmark Youth international, formerly of Rosenborg. Chris Gloster also arrives from PSV Eindhoven while Maximilliano Moralez returns after a lengthy spell out with injury and he will boost the team in terms of experience. Sean Johnson has been named the new club captain by coach Ronny Deila who starts his second season with high hopes.
