An Eastern Conference clash in the MLS sees eighth-place DC United looking to make it back-to-back wins when they host bottom of the standings Inter Miami. DC pulled out something of a smash-and-grab victory on the fourth of July, securing a 1-0 away win over a Ferreira-less FC Dallas team. The three points lifts Wayne Rooney’s side to eighth in the standings which would qualify them for the newly-implemented Wild Card fixture to determine the final playoff spot. DC United have now won two of their last three with the previous win an impressive 3-0 beatdown of conference leaders FC Cincinnati at this ground. The hosts have a golden opportunity here to make it three wins from their last four against a floundering Inter Miami team. A victory would see DC United go even on points with seventh-place Atlanta United, who they currently trail by three. 

Inter Miami have certainly been shaking up the MLS in recent weeks. With the city eagerly awaiting the arrival of Leo Messi and Sergio Busquets, they will also have a new head coach taking over the squad in next week’s match against St. Louis City. Former Barcelona boss Tata Martino was announced as the man to lead Inter Miami into this new era but won’t be in the dugout for the trip to the nation’s capital. Miami were able to grab a last-gasp equalizer against the Columbus Crew in their most recent outing for a 2-2 final score. It was their second consecutive draw but also a result which pushed their league winless run to nine games. The last time Miami earned three points in an MLS fixture was nearly two months ago. Inter Miami have struggled mightily on their travels, losing eight of nine fixtures and managing to score just five goals during that time.
