Crystal Palace welcomes Hartlepool United to Selhurst Park for this FA Cup fourth round tie. The hosts are in 13th position in the Premiership while the visitors are in 16th position in League Two, the fourth tier of English football. Palace have only two wins in their last seven matches and one of those victories was a 2-1 win over Millwall in the third round of this competition. They have lost their last two home matches but have not lost three successive home games this season. Palace have not met Hartlepool in any competition since 2004 when they won a League Cup encounter 2-1 after extra time. They have progressed in nine of their last 11 Cup ties against lower league opposition but have never lost to a team from the fourth tier or lower.
Hartlepool have been in decent form recently avoiding defeat in their last four matches but drawing all four of these games after regulation time. Their third round victory was against Championship side Blackpool who they beat 2-1. They have had a fantastic Cup run and have beaten higher league sides in all three of the previous rounds. They will take heart from the fact that they beat Palace in their previous two FA Cup matches. In 1978 and 1993 they knocked them out but these matches were played on home side. These is Hartlepool’s seventh straight tie against higher league opposition and are bidding to reach the fifth round for the first time in their history.
