Croatia - Wales: Form Analysis
This will be Croatia’s first match since finishing third at last year’s FIFA World Cup. It was the second successive World Cup that Croatia had made it through to at least the semifinals having made the final in 2018. They have however not been able to replicate this success on the continental stage and they will hope they do it this time around. But first, they have to qualify. Head coach Zlatko Dalic has been at the helm during Croatia’s recent success and was awarded a new contract that will keep him with the team until the next World Cup. He has maintained faith with the same squad that featured in Qatar with captain Luka Modric leading the way. Croatia have never lost a Euro qualification match at home and will feel confident about their chances of starting off here with a win.
Wales are also playing in their first match since the World Cup where they were eliminated in the group stage without winning a single match. Robert Page’s charges have been on a downward spiral and haven’t won a match in their last eight outings. This resulted in them being relegated to the second tier in the Nations League for next season. And to add more salt to injury, they will have to be without talismatic forward Gareth Bale and midfielder Joe Allen who both retired earlier this year. Veteran midfielder Aaron Ramsey will resume his former role as captain. Page has called up four uncapped players for this window but has largely kept with the same team that played in Qatar.
