There’s top-of-the-table League Two action at the Mornflake Stadium this weekend as Crewe Alexandra hosts Doncaster Rovers in a game that has significant implications for the promotion and playoff races. Can the Railwaymen land a key win to keep them inside the playoff spots, or will Rovers get a result to keep them hot on the heels of the top two?

After the midweek games, Crewe is in seventh place on the League Two table, the final spot qualifying for the playoffs. They are level on points and games played with Grimsby (36 games, 56 points) but have a better goal difference (+9 in total). Doncaster are third, with 62 points from their 36 games played so far, a point ahead of Notts County in fourth and four behind Bradford City in second. 

The teams shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw earlier on in the season. Crewe’s form has recently been solid with just one defeat in five, a run that includes two wins and two draws. They were surprisingly beaten 4-1 at home by Fleetwood in their last home match but earned a 1-1 draw away to Salford City last weekend.

Doncaster saw a run of three wins in a row come to an end in their last away game, a 1-0 defeat away to Bromley. At the weekend, they hosted Swindon Town and emerged with a 2-2 draw against Ian Holloway’s team, despite taking an early 2-0 lead in that game.
