By the time the Coventry v Ipswich game is played, Leicester City, who are already confirmed as being promoted, could be Champions. However, while Ipswich could still technically catch the Foxes, their manager Kieran McKenna will be more focused on taking second spot from Leeds United. The second and third-placed teams in the table are locked together on 90 points, but this is Ipswich’s game in hand over the Yorkshire side. A point, or ideally all three, would be a huge step towards that second automatic promotion spot and avoiding the dreaded playoffs. McKenna’s team, like the teams around them in the table, are stumbling towards the end of the season with no win in four and three successive draws. Another point at the Coventry Building Society Arena would be more than welcome. Ipswich held Hull City to a 3-3 draw on Humberside at the weekend to move level on points with Leeds.

The home side are still probably suffering from a hangover from their dramatic FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United on penalties. Coventry have not won in four, losing three and drawing their most recent encounter with Blackburn Rovers. In fact Mark Robins’ side have won just one of their last six as their hopes of a playoff spot evaporated over these last few weeks of the season. Coventry now lie ninth in the table and have little to play for other than pride. The home side have drawn eight of their 21 home games this season, winning nine and losing four. When the teams met earlier this season it was Ipswich who came out on top at Portman Road, landing a 2-1 victory over Coventry back in December.
