Coventry City, currently eighth in the Championship, face seventh-placed Hull City in a game with huge playoff implications for both teams. The home side will be in action just days after their dramatic FA Cup semi-final loss on penalties to Manchester United. At one stage it appeared Coventry had come back from 3-0 down to secure a 4-3 win, only to be denied by VAR. That energy-sapping performance could well see the Sky Blues suffering from a hangover here. Especially against a team three-points and one-place above them in the Championship table and that harbour playoff hopes of their own. The home side have been tough to beat on their own patch, losing just three Championship games at home this season, but two of those defeats have come in the last four matches.

Hull City have played a game more than Coventry City and are three points clear of their hosts, but with a poorer goal-difference. They are also six points behind Norwich City and West Brom in the final two playoff spots, so anything less than a win here would likely be the death knell for their playoff hopes. Hull have won more games away from home than at home this season (10 compared to eight) and they have lost just one of their last five away games. Draws have stymied their promotion push a little, with six in their last 11 matches, including last weekend’s 0-0 draw away to Watford. This very much a playoff for the playoffs, with the loser almost certain to miss out, while a draw will likely mean both teams miss out.
