17th-place Coventry will look to claw their way back into playoff contention when they host 15th-place Birmingham City for matchday 20 of the Championship. Both teams find themselves in a similar position, separated by just one point in the standings and in desperate need of a full three points. It’s been a poor season for Coventry whose season was derailed by a four-match losing run at the end of October. Since then, the Sky Blues have shown some fight as they would secure seven points from the next three fixtures. However, a 2-1 away loss to Ipswich last weekend put an end to the winning run. The good news for the fans is that the team returns to CBS Arena where they have been a much more defensively sound and tough to beat team. The hosts have lost just once when playing on home soil and are conceding 0.78 goals per game compared to 1.60 on the road.

Birmingham started the season red hot with 11 points from the first 15 available. They’ve completely fizzled out since then however, managing just three wins in the following 14 matches. The Blues would opt for a manager change in an attempt to turn their fortunes around and brought in Wayne Rooney in mid-October. It’s been an awful start for Rooney in his return to the Championship. His Birmingham side have won just one match, drawn two and lost five in his eight games in charge so far. A large part of Birmingham’s struggles is down to the away form where they have posted an anemic 1-1-7 record. What’s worse, the visitors are on a streak of seven consecutive defeats away from home in the Championship where they have conceded 17 goals. Birmingham’s last match finished in a 0-0 home draw with Rotherham.
