Corinthians will play host to high-flying Botafogo in the Brazilian Serie A on Sunday. The hosts are currently in 14th place after 23 matches, while the visitors lead the league standings with 51 points. Corinthians are a long way from the type of form that saw them finish fourth in the league last season. They come into this match off the back of an entertaining 4-4 draw at home to Gremio. With that result, they extended their winless run in the league to five consecutive games, including four draws and one loss. However, that loss was the only one they have conceded in their last ten games. Timao have been difficult to beat on their home patch and have avoided defeat in their last five home games, losing only once at home in 11 matches this season. As a result, the bookmakers have made them the marginal favourites to win this one. 

Meanwhile, after opening up a sizable lead in the league, Botafogo have hit a bit of a rough patch of late. They were beaten 2-1 in their last match against Atletico Mineiro, which followed consecutive losses against Flamengo and Defensa y Justicia in the Copa Sudamericana. In their last six league games, the visitors have won two, drawn two, and lost two. Still, they are six points ahead of Palmeiras in second and 11 clear of Gremio, who are the first side below the Copa Libertadores automatic qualification places. The Lone Stars won the reverse fixture 3-0 back in May on their home patch. However, this could prove to be a much tougher assignment against a Corinthians side that have been hard to overcome on home soil.
