Comoros vs Mozambique Prediction & Betting Tips - COSAFA Cup
by Daniel Ngulu | in Football Predictions
Comoros’ journey and hopes for a first COSAFA Cup title fell just short following their elimination at the semi-finals stage. The island nation will now take on Mozambique in the third place playoff match on Sunday at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha. Let's take a look at the match statistics and predictions for this intriguing clash.
In the first semi-final, staged at the same stadium on Friday, Comoros rallied late but the Coelacanths were ultimately dealt a 2-1 defeat by Southern Africa favorites, Angola. The same fate would befall the Mambas, whose quest for a third appearance in the final was stopped by Namibia in the second semi-final match.
Mozambique’s defeat would, however, pass as more deflating, having lost through post-match penalties after the teams played to a 0-0 draw. As these two now face off, either side will want to take home the consolation prize. For Comoros, this has been their most successful COSAFA Cup sojourn. Before this edition, they had only graced the quarter-finals once.

Comoros - Mozambique: Form Analysis
Comoros gave a brave showing against giants Angola but their best was not enough to match the Southern African nation’s effort. A third minute goal from Manuel Keliano had Comoros chasing the game from very early on. It got worse in the 24th minute when Laurindo Dilson Maria doubled Angola’s advantage.
Damage limitation forced Comoros into playing more defensively and they held off, going into the break trailing 2-0. They gave it a better push in the second half but still had to wait until late for their consolation goal. That came through their COSAFA Cup lead scorer Ibroihim Youssouf, who slotted home a penalty in the 84th minute.
That wouldn’t amount to much as Comoros suffered their second defeat at this competition. It was also their third loss in the last 12 matches. Four losses in six matches at the COSAFA Cup isn’t a record Comoros will look back to with pride ahead of this encounter.
Comoros have lost four of their last six COSAFA Cup matches
Mozambique haven't had a better tournament than Comoros but they seemed somewhat deserving of a place in the final. That would not come to pass as they suffered a 4-2 defeat through post-match penalties.
It wasn’t always a bad day for Mozambique who survived an earlier scare as Bethuel Muzeu missed a 43rd minute penalty. Muzeu would make amends for his miss with a successfully dispatched spot kick, the first of the tie breakers.
Meanwhile, Mozambique shot themselves in the foot with misses from Julio Carrelo and Dario Chongai to see Namibia carry the day. With five wins in as many matches against Comoros, Mozambique will be confident of finishing this tournament with a flourish.

Comoros & Mozambique Squad Analysis
Comoros will once again be looking up to Ibroihim Youssouf coming into this game. Youssouf stepped up to take the penalty that earned Comoros a consolation against Angola following a foul on Kassim Hadji. That was Youssouf’s second COSAFA Cup goal, having previously found the back of the net in Comoros' 1-0 win over Zambia in matchday three.
Ibroihim Youssouf has scored two COSAFA Cup goals.
As Comoros look to their talisman Youssouf, Mozambique keeper Armando Felipe will definitely be a busy man. He did well in the semis, a highlight of his performance being a penalty stop in the 43rd minute. With two clean sheets in this competition, he will be a man to be relied upon in this game too.

Comoros vs Mozambique - Other Interesting Predictions
Both teams to score - NO
In their last five matches, Mozambique registered three clean sheets at 90 minutes. Ahead of this game they failed to score in two of three matches and managed more than a goal in one of five matches. This says they aren’t really sharp in attack.
Comoros on the other hand, failed to score in two of seven and managed more than a goal in two of seven matches as well. Two of their last four goals came from penalties and they’ve also shown a lack of attacking fluidity. With these numbers, we will not be backing both teams to score.
