Venezuela have been hit heavily after a number of their players were reported to test positive for Covid-19 ahead of their game against Brazil in Copa America. They went on to lose that game 3-0 and will be hoping to recover when they get to face Colombia in the second game of Group B. Colombia had a slim 1-0 opening win over Ecuador and will want to have a more comfortable clash when they face a side they’ve dominated in their recent meetings. In the last five meetings with Venezuela, Colombia have no loss; they’ve won three of them and kept four clean sheets. Venezuela have scored just once in those five meetings. In their last three matches, Colombia are unbeaten and have failed to score in just one of their last eight matches, while six clean sheets in their last 10 matches further points to their strength going into this game.

In terms of attacking strength, Venezuela are way inferior to Colombia and this is among the factors that will decide this game. They haven’t scored in their last two matches and head to this game with only three goals in the last seven matches. Those three goals were scored in two matches, and among the games they failed to score, was a 3-0 loss to Colombia. Meanwhile, they are also weaker defensively, with just one clean sheet in their last eight matches – a 0-0 draw with Uruguay. Twice in their last three matches, Venezuela have conceded three goals and they aren’t the strongest performers in Copa America, having registered six wins in their last 20 matches in the competition. With four teams set to progress to the next stage, Venezuela will be happy to finish up with Brazil and Colombia in the opening two games. They’ll be more confident of going for wins over Ecuador and Peru in the final two group games.
