Colombia vs Iraq Prediction & Betting Tips - International Friendlies
by Joseph King | in Football Predictions
Colombia will look to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games when they take on Iraq in Valencia, Spain for this international friendly on Friday. Colombia were able to overcome an early one goal deficit to earn a 2-1 win over Japan in Osaka in their most recent outing. The victory was the latest in a string of positive results for Los Cafeteros, who have won seven and drawn twice over their last nine fixtures. The South American side should have no trouble adjusting to the unfamiliar stadium as their last eight consecutive matches have come either as the away team or on a neutral field. This makes their recent unbeaten run all the more impressive. There is a good mix of youth and experience in this Colombian side which holds the 17th world ranking according to FIFA. Expect to see the likes of Juan Cuadrado and Luis Diaz in addition to some of Colombia’s talented younger players. CSKA’s Jorge Carrascal is set to make his sixth appearance up top and Fluminense’s Jhon Arias should be in line for his fifth cap in the midfield.
Iraq come into this match off the back of a 2-0 away defeat to Russia in St. Petersburg in March. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Lions of Mesopotamia and put an end to a six game unbeaten run. Jesus Casas’ men are coming off an impressive performance in the Gulf Cup as the host nation. Iraq was able to win the competition for the first time in 35 years following a 3-2 extra time win over Oman back in January. Iraq haven’t had much luck against teams from the Americas lately, drawing 0-0 against Ecuador and losing 4-0 to Mexico within the past eight months. The Gulf Cup win will have provided a huge shot in the arm for this Iraq side. However, the loss to Russia in their most recent outing is an ominous sign ahead of their meeting with the Colombians.

Our Colombia vs Iraq Prediction
Iraq have made excellent progress under the management of Jesus Casas since his appointment in November of 2022. However, Colombia will be the toughest side that he has faced in his time in charge of the Gulf nation. To make matters worse, the Colombians are in good form with their last outing being a morale boosting comeback in a tricky away fixture. With the South Americans well-accustomed to playing in unfamiliar territory, we don’t expect them to have much trouble disposing of Iraq here. Our Colombia vs Iraq prediction is for Colombia to win with the -1 European handicap.
