Colombia are set to open their Copa America campaign with a tough game, against Ecuador in Group B with the two nations coming off mixed results from the World Cup qualifiers in the CONMEBOL region. Colombia have registered some improvement after the back to back losses at the end of 2020. They had a win and a draw in their two World Cup qualification matches and get to this competition on a high after coming from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 with Argentina. That draw came hot on the heels of a 3-0 away win over Peru, which remains their only win in the last five matches. The last team to beat them was Ecuador and it was a heavy one as Colombia lost 6-1 in Quito but with the improvement seen recently, it is unlikely Colombia can lose again by such a margin. In their last five matches, Ecuador have no clean sheet, and thrice in that run, they have conceded two. They have however failed to score in just one of the five. When not playing at the comfort of their home, Ecuador have struggled against formidable opposition. They go to this game with two wins in nine away matches, and the wins have been against lowly ranked Bolivia and Peru. In that run, they’ve lost to Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, Mexico and USA.
