After their conquest of Paraguay in Houston, Texas on Monday night, Colombia will pack up their bags for a trip to Arizona. Here they will face Costa Rica in Group D as they continue with their quest for Copa America glory.
Beating Paraguay 2-1 on Match Day 1 catapulted Colombia to the top of the group while Costa Rica are third. A ninth meeting between the two nations, this one finds Colombia with a massive head to head advantage, having won six of the earlier eight.
Just as it was in Houston, we expect los Cafeteros to be roared on by a huge sea of yellow-clad partisan crowds. The big question ahead of this game is whether they can make it two wins out of two matches to secure their place in the Copa America knockout stages.

Colombia - Costa Rica: Form Analysis
Goals in the first half from Crystal Palace’s Daniel Munoz and Jefferson Lerma led a dominant Colombia to a 2-1 win over Paraguay on Monday. On a day that Premier League stars shone, Brighton’s Julio Enciso scored Paraguay’s consolation, a reminder of Colombia’s defensive failings.
While this marked Colombia’s ninth straight win, they have just two clean sheets in the last six matches. Nestor Lorenzo’s charges are however living to the billing as one of the Copa America favorites.
To this game they carry a 24-match unbeaten run, which dates back to February of 2022, when they lost to Argentina. In that 24-match run, they only failed to win five times. Will this be the year Colombia add to their only Copa America title, won in 2001 when they hosted the competition?

Costa Rica will be looking to stop Colombia’s lengthy undefeated run. They have much to bank on, having put up a great fight to draw Brazil 0-0 in their opening game.
This was a result of an effective low block that frustrated Brazil, who had 19 shots without breaching their defence. In their last competitive meeting with Colombia, they did win. That was in the 2016 Copa America but can they repeat the same here?
Costa Rica embody belief, going by the line-up sent out against Brazil. They had a 19-year-old in defence and a keeper who has never played top flight football.
After facing one South American giant they will be fired up for another and come here having kept four straight clean sheets. A 3-1 loss to Argentina is their only defeat in the last seven matches and in eight matches, they only failed to score twice.

In the context of their attack, James Rodriguez has been a major player for Colombia. He may not have scored in the opening game but had two assists.
The Colombia skipper comes as a great asset with his passing ability, positioning and creativity but not really in defensive duties. Liverpool’s Luis Diaz will add to that attacking threat and the two scorers from the first game should keep their places.
Defender Jhon Lucumi, an early sub off against Paraguay, could sit out this game.

For Costa Rica, there is a sense they are still trying to find the perfect combinations. Ibiza’s Patrick Sequeira did well in goal against Brazil but the reward for that is an even tougher outing.
As they are expected to line out defensively again, Francisco Calvo’s experience will be really crucial.
A previous star of the team, Joel Campbell will be among the players looked upon to light up the Costa Rica attack. The former Arsenal man came on with 20 minutes to go and should be key after the team managed just two shots against Brazil.
