The Copa Libertadores offers up an interesting selection of games this week, one standout being the second leg of the third-round clash between Club Guarani and Palestino. Hailing from Paraguay, Guarani will host this leg after travelling to Chile to take on Palestino in what turned out to be a game low on quality last week. Despite having Fernando Barrientos sent off in the first half after two yellow cards, Guarani took the lead after the break through Rodney Redes. It was the 19-year-old forward's second goal in the competition and the only goal of the game. Played in front of a sparse crowd at the Estadio Municipal de La Cisterna, Palestino were mostly restricted to shots outside the box before their opponents were reduced to ten men. Thereafter, genuine chances became even rarer for the Chilean side as Guarani looked to protect their lead. Sitting back and waiting for their opponents to attack, Guarani dealt with the attacking threats of Palestino comfortably. This is a problem that coach Ivo Basay must address before the return leg.

Guarani boss Gustavo Costas will be happy with how his team performed during their 1-0 first-leg win. They defended well when the pressure was on them and they were at a numerical disadvantage. They attacked in a more dynamic way than their hosts with the movement of their attackers being an edge.
