Club Brugge top the Belgian league but have had a rough time of it in European football over the past few seasons. They begin their Champions League campaign with a home game against Borussia Dortmund who failed to make it out of their group last season. They are two points clear at the top of the Belgian Jupiler League with six wins and a draw from their opening seven league fixtures. That doesn't necessarily mean success awaits them in European competition and they have struggled in recent seasons. 2017/18 saw them lose in the third qualifying round of the Champions League and then defeat in the play-off round of the Europa League. The season before that they finished bottom of their Champions League group losing all their games. The Belgians have gone ten Champions League games without a win and have one victory in the last 16.

Last season was a massive disappointment for Borussia Dortmund as they failed to get out of their Champions League group. They had a tough draw though having to play both Real Madrid and Tottenham. They are second in the Bundesliga at present with seven points from their first three games but have gone eight Champions League games without a win. With the other two teams in this group being Monaco and Atletico Madrid, they need three points from this game to boost their chances of making it through to the knock-out stages. Dortmund are in decent form at present and can get the win in this match.
