Ligue 1 basement club Clermont Foot have their task cut out against third-placed Paris Saint-Germain this weekend at the Stade Gabriel-Montpied. This match to be played on Saturday will see the hosts start five points adrift of safety while the visitors are two points behind leaders Brest. Clermont haven’t had the best of starts, failing to build on their top-eight finish last season. They lost five of their six Ligue 1 matches this season with only a 2-2 draw against Toulouse the exception. They already have the joint-worst defensive record of the season, conceding 12 goals. It doesn’t get any better at the other end as they scored only five goals, with only Lyon scoring worse. It doesn’t help matters that they failed to score in their last two home league games and have lost all three Ligue 1 matches at this venue in this season.

PSG made light work of talisman Kylian Mbappe’s absence, romping to a 4-0 win over Marseille, in their last league game. That made it three wins from four league games, with only a 3-2 loss to Nice being the aberration. This run has made sure that they came back from a slow start to the season where they drew their first two league games. One of those draws came on the road against Toulouse, but they came back and won 4-1 against Lyon in their last road trip. There would be a sense of revenge too, in the camp, as they were beaten 3-2 by Clermont in the last game of the previous season.
